Valaam Island projectHi my friends!  My name is Alexsander Sherbakov.

1)Valaam Island, with its wonderful wild nature and unique historical =
monuments, is located in the middle of the greatest in Europe lake =
Ladoga. The Valaam "Masters' Village" NGO suggests our colleagues from =
ecovillages, those who are interested in ecotourism and healthy way of =
life, who develop cultural and educational exchange programs, and just =
seek friends and take part in an interesting event, to support the =
development of an architectural project of an ecological house-hotel, =
including alternative energy sources, composting toilet, etc. The house =
will be based on the former hayshed, 12x18 m in plane (there is a =
foundation and wall construction elements). The first floor is supposed =
to include a large sitting room, a kitchen, a bathroom,
and an apartment for the guard-administrator. The second (mansard?) =
floor will have visitors' rooms.

Funds (about $5000) are required to develop an individual project and to =
coordinate it with the local administration.=20

After the project is developed (thanks to your support), the Masters' =
Village NGO will try to seek funds and begin the construction, with =
local labor and ecological materials to be used.

2) In summer, 2003, The Masters' Village is going to organize an =
ecological volunteers' camp, the purpose of which is a voluntary work on =
cleaning a forest of dead trees and windfallen branches, fields--from =
bushes; clearing the irrigation canals, cleaning the island area from =
garbage; weeding in gardens and vegetable gardens.

Volunteers and representatives of the international community, those who =
wants to visit Valaam, enjoy its beauty, restore your health, and add to =
the development of the island, welcome to our camp!

The program also includes: training in methods of permaculture and =
biodynamic agriculture; making new contacts; recovering health and =
strength; constructing a public ecohouse, etc.

Funds (about $5000) to develop workcamp (tent, tools)
